Assessing the Unsustainable Cost of Specialty Medications

The Public Sector HealthCare Roundtable, in collaboration with the National Institute for Public Employee Healthcare Policy, released its annual report on the cost of specialty medications. 

The report surveyed 21 plan sponsors across 16 states representing over 157 health plans on specialty drugs and the costs associated with administering health care plans for the 2021-2022 plan year. These organizations provide benefit coverage to 5.4 million lives, with a total drug spend of $10.4 billion in 2022, including $4.8 billion on specialty drugs.
