Rick leads Aetna’s Group Retiree Solutions business which delivers retiree healthcare solutions to over 500 employers in the commercial and public sector & labor markets serving over 1.3 million Medicare-eligible retirees. Rick and his team have led Aetna’s Group Retiree business to a market leading position nationally, increasing its Group Medicare Advantage and Group Part D membership by 700% during his 14 year tenure.
Prior to joining Aetna in 2012, most of Rick’s experience had been outside of the healthcare industry. His background prior to Aetna spans 25 years of senior leadership roles in sales, marketing, product, operations and data analytics at UnitedHealth/Optum, Carlson Companies and Dun & Bradstreet. During Rick’s six years at Unitedhealth/Optum, he served as the Chief Sales Officer for United’s Evercare Special Needs Plan business followed by leading OptumHealth’s Government, Education and Labor business with a particular focus on Behavioral Health and Complex Care Management.
Outside of work, in addition to spending a lot of time enjoying life with his two kids, Rick has committed many years to serving youth. Rick put his career on hold for two years from 2005-2007 while he led a team of volunteers on the streets five nights per week working with homeless youth. This effort was part of a national nonprofit organization called StandUp for Kids where Rick also served as Board Chair on the board of directors. Rick was also deeply engaged as the Board Chair of a nonprofit organization called Crescent Cove in Minneapolis which is the first pediatric hospice and respite care facility in the Midwest.
Lastly, Rick is a strong public advocate in his community for Adoption as he has been blessed through the adoptions of his two kids.
Rick and his children reside in the St. Paul, MN area. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH.
